Ingredients
  

  • 2 pounds fresh green beans trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 can 10.75 oz cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 packet onion soup mix
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup French fried onions
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the Green Beans: Wash and trim fresh green beans, cutting them into uniform 1-inch pieces for even cooking.
  • Create the Cream Base: In a large mixing bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, milk, and onion soup mix. Whisk until smooth and well combined.
  • Add Seasonings: Stir in chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper into the cream mixture.
  • Combine Ingredients: Add the prepared green beans to the cream mixture, tossing gently to ensure all beans are well coated.
  • Transfer to Slow Cooker: Pour the green bean mixture into your greased slow cooker.
  • Initial Cooking: Cover and cook on LOW for 4-5 hours or HIGH for 2-3 hours, stirring once halfway through cooking.
  • Add Cheese: During the last 30 minutes of cooking, stir in the shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Final Topping: In the last 15 minutes, sprinkle French fried onions on top and drizzle with melted butter.
  • Serve: Allow to rest for 5 minutes before serving hot.

Notes

Fresh green beans work best for this recipe, but frozen can be substituted if thawed and drained thoroughly
Don't lift the slow cooker lid frequently as this releases heat and extends cooking time
The casserole is done when green beans are tender but still have a slight bite
For a lighter version, substitute Greek yogurt for sour cream
